UV Hair Protection

During the sunny (usually) summer months we tend to focus on our body; cleansing, toning, exfoliating, moisturising and protection from the sun. However, not many of us will stop and think about protecting our hair from the damaging effects of the suns rays. UVA and UVB can cause damage; UVA can cause photobleaching, and together with UVB, can damage proteins and lipids in the hair. This damage can result in the drying and breakage of hair and also make it appear dull.

Univar's UV Protection Hair Spritiz contains UV filters believed to prevent the appearance of dry, coarse hair often associated with time spent on the beach. This product contains Uvinul N 539 T (a photostable UVB filter), Uvinul MC 80 (UVB), Uvinul MS 40 (UVA/B) and Uvinul M40 (photostable UVA/B), to give you broadband protection. This UV Protection Hair Spritz could help to keep the hair looking healthy and in good condition.

A similar formulation in our library is a UV Hair Styling Spray. This contains Uvinul P25, a UVB filter, to protect the hair from the suns damage. It also contains Luviquat Mono LS. This material has been developed with heat styling in mind, however, it may well have benefits in sun protection. High heat leads to major changes in hair structure. This damaged hair can't regain original water content and less water in the hair means lower elasticity, split ends and less shine. Luviquat Mono LS strengthens the hair fibre. Its cationic character is attracted by the negatively charged hair surface, and the higher the negative charge (damaged hair) the more Luviquat Mono LS is attracted. There are no fly away effects due to the neutralization of the negative charge and there is reduced breakage due to reduced combing forces. For the added benefit of styling this product contains Luviquat Supreme and Panthenol giving a conditioned, flexible, natural hold, ideal for the beach.
